Abbott Elementary : How does it keep its audience engaged?

    In the recent times in the modern landscape of the television industry , shows don't rely on the traditional ways that televisions made audiences hooked on the broadcasting. Now, they put a unique narrative structure that incorporates repetition with difference. This strategy to storytelling needs a series to help keep the main property of the show ongoing, so that the audience can still be entertained while keeping the shows on TV.  Abbott Elementary adopts the style of mockumentary style sitcom, similar to a famous Emmy award winning show The Office. In this blog, we will go through the seasons in Abbott Elementary, focusing on the character Janine Teauges and two key episodes Attack Ad and New Tech. 

The character development the repetition with difference. 

    Janine Teague's  character is well constructed to repeat with a difference. Reason being is that she an naive optimist that believes with enough work,  she can over come any obstacle that is towards her educational prowess. Her enthusiasm and determination  remain throughout the season when she encounters a problem.  Each challenge continues to follow a pattern, bur deepen the character. Janine is forced to be put in these predicaments that that make her reflect her idealism. 

    To continue, in a episode called Attack Ad in season 2 episode 7 is an turning point to Janine, as an charter school gives a complex challenge that makes Janine prevent the image of her school be diminished by the ads. In this episode, Abbot Elementary becomes the main focus of an attack by an Charter school organization named Legendary Schools. Janine mauver her way in using passive methods which best represent her character, however she sounds find out that all her problems cant be solved by just kindness. Sometimes the need of strategy, resilience, and .often community support. Throughout the episodes and seasons, Janine characters remains familiar, repeating the same format but with a difference in deepening her character. 

    This is similar to another episode titled New Tech, Janines character is put in a new situation where a new education tool that interrupts the original methods in traditional teaching. Janine embraces the new technology, in the hopes of improving her classrooms environment and students learning. However, as many challenges begin to arise, Janine makes the realization that technology cannot replace the heart to heart teaching you have with your students. This episode helps reinforce the core of Janines character, ad her is resilent against her innovation with practicality.

The shows film technique of using mockumentary techniques helps the character story to be developed gradually, making viewers enticed and hooked on the school, Janines relationship with staff and students, and her romantic relationship with Gregory Eddie our continuous plotlines in the show that keep viewers engage and the continues attention to  the show serve as the purpose as Abbott Elementary is doing to keep broadcasting. 

    

     The show employs serial components is the conflict between the teachers and the schools underfunding. Rather than forming a union or handling this situation, the staff always reminds Janine that this issue cant be fixed over night. This continuous cycle of wanting to fix an issue but an being a different subject helps repeat with a difference.

Through the character Janine Teauge, we see through her eyes that Abbott Elementary demonstrates the wonders of repetition with difference in television storytelling by maintaining storylines and using plotlines that can be slightly change every episode.
