       In the show Abbot Elementary, sound plays an important role in shaping the comedic and emotional tone of the TV show. From the smart use of silence during awkward situations to the playful background music that helps point toward the character's personalities, sound helps enhance the storytelling in impactful ways, Furthermore, This attention to the auditory side of things helps improve the scenes, making the show more engaging and relatable.

In this episode we are shown a Janine Teagues attempting an trying to fix a light bulb, however, when she moves a loose wire, all the electricity in the school shuts down. When all the teachers come out of there classrooms to see what is thes situation, Principle Ava interrupts the conversation with her unusual flair and announces it is the end times. The use of non-diegetic sounds of a grand almost regal , adds humor by contrasting with her often chaotic self. 

            Furthermore. sounds like diegetic and non-diegetic help cultivates the experience and emotion that relays from a film or TV show.  When questioning if Abbot Elementary has a sonic footprint, we must ask if abbot Elementary has distinctions that can help see if it does have one. The show has diegetic sounds of such as school noise playing in the background. Throughout the series, the ambient sound of students talking, lockers clanging, and the buzz of a school is ever more present. A second distinction is the score in the show is the playful and emotional music. In Janine's classroom , you see Courtney begin to disrupt class by doing her own anthem or pretending to be her. The typical background classroom noise of students working quite gives away to the heightened sounds. For instance,  Gregory Eddie a substitute in Abbot Elementary has a calming deep voice that can't be compared to Janine. In an episode in Season 1 Episode 4 titled "New Tech", we see Gregory and Janine engaging in a conversation where Gregory is inviting Janine for dinner. Gregory's measured, calm tone is counter to Janine's.  Later on,  when the teachers were introduced to the new technology, Gregory spoke slowly and softly as he expressed his discomfort.

           Abbot Elementary frequently has a major contrast between noisy and quiet environments to help improve storytelling. The noisy school setting, with its constant chatter, announcements, and bustling classrooms, is often juxtaposed with quiet, intimate moments such as when characters are having heart-to-heart conversations in the teacher lounges or classrooms. A last example that be used for this is in season 1 episode 6 named "Gifted Program" where the school decided to implement a gifted program for its students.  In this episode ,we are shown a major contrast between a quiet envrioment to a noisy classroom. 

          To conclude, Abbot Elementary , sound plays a crucial role in helping shape the atmosphere of the show, help construct the comedic and emotional aspects. Each character's distinct vocal style from Janines energetic optimism to Ava's sarcastic confidence help define there performances. Whether through non-diegetic sound effects, lively background noise, or the perfect musical cues placed in the show.
